The Special Education program provides children and youth with disabilities with a broad range of academic, developmental, social, therapeutic and recreational services designed to modify and positively enhance their social/emotional behavior and their academic achievement. Students receive guidance and direction that will assist them in identifying and preparing for successful careers in the world of work and/or institutions of higher education.
Ada S. McKinley offers several Alternative School programs designed to reclaim youth between the ages of 12 and 21, who have not been successful in traditional educational settings. The Alternative School programs provide them with diverse and exemplary educational instruction and supportive services. Staff is committed to providing an academic foundation that is customized to meet the needs of the specific population served by a wholistic, student centered, and value oriented educational approach.
College Preparation and Placement
Ada S. McKinley Community Services also recognizes that future leaders of tomorrow begin building skills today. The Youth Academic program, and early intervention program, prepares 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students for the high school experience by providing tutoring in math, science, and reading. Program participants must attend targeted elementary schools.
One of the Agencys most recognized and highly acclaimed programs is its Talent Search program for college placement. More than 54,000 students have been placed in colleges and universities throughout the United States in the programs 34 years of existence.
